Kim Cross

Judge, Awesome Sports Writing Contest 2019

Author of the New York Times best-selling What Stands in a Storm, Kim Cross is a full-time freelance writer for Outside, ESPN, Bicycling, BIKE, The Drake, and other magazines. Her long-form narratives have been included in "Best of" lists by the Columbia Journalism Review and published in The Best American Sports Writing. In what feels like a past life, she was a "cafeteria decathlete" who competed in ten sports, nationally or internationally in four: water-skiing (first place), sprint triathlon (fourth), off-road triathlon (eighth), and 24-hour adventure racing (not last). She's now a certified mountain-bike coach with a passion for teaching women and student-athletes involved in the National Interscholastic Cycling Association.
